Mega projects to be reviewed: Badal
Chandigarh, March 02: Newly appointed Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Friday that the mega projects cleared by previous Congress Government would be reviewed and there would be a "comprehensive all round restructuring of economic priorities to shift the focus from so-called mega-culture to the actual and bare needs of the common Punjabi."
Ruling out a complete reversal of the mega projects he said at his first press conference here this evening, "We are not against any one project as we want to industrialise the state. But the projects, especially those relating to housing, which would not be of any benefit to the state or its people, would be reviewed."
On a question regarding the Ludhiana City Centre in which the SAD had before the elections alleged a major scam, he said that the rule of law would prevail in LCC and other cases of alleged corruption.
"We are committed to end corruption and district heads would be held responsible for alleged cases of corruption in their jurisdiction," he added.
He also announced proposal to create two new ministries to tackle problems of NRIs and employment. The government would also open four offices in different countries where there was a large Punjabi population so that NRIs can approach them for redressal of their problems back home, he said adding the countries include Canada, USA, Britain and Australia.
Badal said that the Employment Ministry would be entrusted with the task of exploring training and employment generation. Besides this four boards for development of trade and industry, including small scale, would be set up, he said adding that communication gap between the industry and the government would be ended by organising regular inter-actions as not a single such event had taken place in past five years.
